CRICKET PITCHES
NO WATERING ALLOWED
A thunderstorm occurred over the city's water catchment area on Saturday, but no appreciable benefit resulted from the- rain which fell.
While the general hosing prohibition lasts, no wickets for practice or club games will be prepared on city reserves or recreation grounds. The reserves are cracked by the heat, and extremely hard. Heavily rolled, the surface of the ground is almost like the footpaths, and does not conserve water beneath, as do garden^ and other ground where the surface is loose. The quantity of water necessary to bring a cricket pitch to the requisite condition is therefore considerable.
