It is believed that the Earl of Granard is acting as intermediary in connection, with, his Majesty's desired Anglo-Irish reconciliation. The Earl of Granard recently had a'9o minutes' conversation With Mr. de Valera, and went to London the, same evening. The "Daily Sketch, says that it wo,uld be ■ difficult to name an intermediary better qualified to understand the views and difficulties "of .both sides. The eigth Earl of Granard (the Rt. I Hon. Bernard Arthur William Patrick-, Hastings Forbes), who is 60, has .been a member of the Irish Senate since I 1921, and has-had a distinguished career with ' military service :in the South African and Great- Wars, where he commanded the sth Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. He' Miss Beatrice' Mills; daughter of Ogden Mills, U.S.A., in-1909, and has a family i of two sons and two. daughters.
