TALLOW AND HEMP.
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated February. 9, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— ! Tallow.—Good demand at auction; 369 casks offered, of which 240 sold at from Is 6d to 2s per cwt advance on the prices ruling at' the last auctions. Present spot quotations are:—Miittori: Fine, 255; fair to good, 23s to 245; dark to dull, 21 to 225. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed; 24s 6d to 26s 6d; fair to good, 23s to 245; dark to dull, 20s to 21a 9d. Mixed: Fair to good, 22s 6d to 245; dark to dull, 20s to 21s 9d. Gut, etc., 20s to 21e 9d. Hemp.—Manila: Market quiet and easier. "K." grade for February-April shipment quoted sellers at £13. Sisal: Market quiet but steady. No. 1 grade quoted buyers for February-April shipment at £15, and for April-June shipment at £15 ss. New Zealand: Market nominal and unchanged.
