, '"'Mainsail" has received the following letter:— 'Dear Sir,—l should be pleased if you would publish this letter in order that the wrong impression gained by the reported account and subsequent 1 remarks concerning the inter-club and I Idle-Along championship, which were [conducted under the auspices of the I Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor-boat Association, may be corrected. "From meteorological records taken at Rongotai Aerodrome the following information is of interest. ' Between 2.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, the greatest velocity of the wind w.as 40 m.p.h.; direction N.N.E.; conditions, squally. Between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, the greatest velocity of the wind was 38 m.p.h.; direction, N.N.W.; conditions,, wind steady. "As it is necessary for the sailing committee to > make its decision, whether or not a race' is to be held, at least half an hour before starting time; it should,also be pointed out that from 2.30. p.m. on Saturday, the weather was moderating slightly, while on Sunday, from 10 a.m. onwards the force-of the wind increased considerably.

In the opinion of experienced yachtsmen, however, the sea conditions on ..the eastern side of Evans Bay were at ■ least 50 per cent worse on Saturday afternoon than on Sunday morning, as would be expected from the direction of the wind.
