HONOUR TO PRESIDENT
A' pleasing feature of last Saturday's meeting at Petone was the performance of the Wellington Club in the Kitto Shield parade. . The marching and general appearance of the members merited" their success upon the day. While this should prove very encouraging to-the club, at the same time.it only accentuates the fact that.in the-past members have not regarded this branch of the sport with the attention it deserves. The club should be more keen to win the Kitto Shield than any other trophy as a!mark of respect to the club president.
A. R. Wilson, of Whangarei, has now" commenced training in this city witti the .Wellington Club. It is nq exaggeration to say that .this athlete would have represented New Zealand at 'the "Centenary Games had he had the •) competitive advantages of . the athletes in the centres. He will be a decided acquisition to .athletics in the province and the repetition of a few of.his sensational times should help to stir public interest anew.
A very promising junior quartermiler was found in Pat Miller at Pe'tone' on Saturday. .If he runs all his races with the* judgment he used to time his final winning sprint he should only need; more training to make the quarter-mile- his best distance.
