WELLINGTON TROTS
FIELDS FOR HUTT PARK
BRIEF REVIEW OF FORM
Fields o£ satisfactory size and quality vill parade at tho Wellingtou Trotting Club's February Meeting at •Hutfc Park tomorrow, and excellent racing should be witnessed at the local headquarters o£ the light-harness sport. The two principal events are fast-class races over V& miles and 1% miles respectively, and although not catering for the Dominion's leading pacers they have attracted horses who may shortly be climbing to the peak class. There was a change in the weather bringing light rain through last night, but the forecast this morning was for an early 3mprovement, and prospects are for v fine^ day again tomorrow. Ihe course is in excellent order, and it will have benefited a lot from last night's rain. It is probable that it will still bo firm and fast, but it is slightly yielding under tho surface and the horses should race well on it. The betting will be under the single-pool system, ■ with three dividends when there are nine or more starters and two dividends when there are five, six, seven, or eight starters. - The usual convenient rail and road services will operate. Race tiains will leave Lambton Station at 11.5 and 11.37 a.m., also ordinary trains (change at Woburn) at 11.50 a.m., 12.9, 12.20, and 12.41 p.m. The return faro from Wellington is 2s. The fields and a review of form are as follows:— ' 12.30: PRELIMINARY HANDICAP TROT £120; 3.42 class; 1% miles. Earl Bingen ... scr Winsome Laddie . acr Flotsam scr Blue and Gold .. 24 Header scr Guy o' Miuo 60 ■ Ecnova ........ scr The programme opens with the Preliminary Handicap Trot,' for which there is a field of seven. After his trial of 3min 26 2-ssee at Addington on Tuesday luotsam promises to go out favourite,, for he then did his work in a very attractive manner. He was a winner on the course last September. Header has recently been racing well, and on the same mark he may now reverse the tables with his Timaru victor Winsome Laddie. Eenova's earlier win at Timaru would give him a chance, but he subsequently failed badly in the later race that day. Guy o' Mine, who ran a second at the last meeting on the course, will have plenty of local support. A favoured trio may bo Flotsam, Header, and Guy o' Mine. 1.12: WOBURN TRIAL HANDICAP, £100; ,3.43 class;,l% miles. Casino ........ scr Orleigh Mills'... scr Handicapper .... scr Guy Zolock ... 24 Harold Wrack ...scr Supertax ■...,;. 24 Levity . v . acr Edgar Wallace . 36 Native Son .... scr The Woburn Trial Handicap has attracted several smart novices. Levity has the most speed, but he lias become unreliable at the barrier. He appears to have completely recovered from his fall at Timaru. .Casino is a solid type ot pacer, and Native Son's finishing eftoit at Timaru was a promising showing for v horse who had not done njucli previous racing. Handicapper, Harold Wrack, Guy Zolock, and Orleigh Mills, are all possibles 'among the others. Among those iridemand will.probably be Levity, Casino, and Native Son; .1.51: "FEBRUARY HANDICAP, £150; 3.3D class; 1% miles. '■ r.londia ' 1 scr Portlight scr Kllntlock scr Royal de Oto .. 12 Grace McElwyn-.;. scr Coleno Parrish .. 12 Peter Mitchell .. scr Mldiliipmald ~ 36 If Blondie races solidly in the February Handicap he would be difficult to beat, as he has previously been successful at Hutt Park, but was very nervy at; his last appearance there. Grace McElwyn, Royal de Oro, and Midshipmaid are more reliable, and for this reason may be better .propositions for investors. Royal ;de' Oro ran well for a first and a second at ,Forbury Park last week. Portlight is another with prospects, and Flintlock has been fairly consistent. . Bettors may declare for Grace McElwynJ Royal de Oro, and Midshipmaid. 2i36: DOMINION.iyHANDICAP, £2,00; 3.23 ,'.' class; 1% miles. Bracken »„»'•••••. set Fernbroolc Lass . 12 Jimmy de Oro .. acr Little Nelson ... 12 William Tell ... scr Mocast 12 Young Frank... scr Somerby 4S Ajjllo 13. ' There should be a'good pool for tho Dominion Handicap, 'the principal heat of the day, as several of the runners possess good form. After his recent good trials at Addington Agile promises to be the public elect, and he will be assisted in his bid for victory by his quick-begin-ning qualities. The Auckland winner Mocast will be well backed to beat him, and Little Nelson and Jimmy de Oro aye another good pair -of pacers whose main drawback is a tendency to be slow off the mark. Bracken and William Tell may be the likeliest.of, the remainder. In an even issue the best efforts may come from Agile, Mocast, and, Little Nelson. 3.18: KORO KORO HANDICAP TROT, £130; 4.57 class; 2 miles. Earl Buigen .... scr Winsome Laddie scr F(otsam ........ scr Derby Thorpa ..12 Header ?....... scr Guy o' Mine ... 72 B«nOTa ........ scr Winsome Laddie, who -won a two-mile race at Timaru rather easily in 4min -49 4-sgec, is on the limit of the Koro Koro Handicap Trot, and he should race; well. Header is in line, for a win1,, and so are Guy o' Mine and Derby Thorpe, who will' be bracketed. . The form in the earlier trot may do something to clarify the prospects,, but, as the field stands a likejy pair may be Winsome Laddie and the Derby Thorpe-Guy o' Mine bracket, 4.0: SUBURBAN HANDICAP, £100; 3.5 class;. 1% miles. Casino scr Plutus Bcr Handicapper ~. scr Trevor de Oro .7 scr Harold Wrack .. scr Jean Parrish ... 12 Lerity • acr stiver Berry \.. 1%. Mamabu acr Supertax 24 Native Sob .....acr Edgar .Wallace ..SO Handicapper should perform well in the Suburban Handicap. Levity is also engaged. Harold Wrack iB a good type of pacer. Then there are Casino and Plutus, who will form a bracket, Edgar Wallace, Native) "Son, and Jean Parrish, all possibles at their best. Popular selections may be Handicapper, Levity, and Harold Wrack. 4.42: EASTBOUBNE HANDICAP, £140; 2.58 class; 1% miles. 810ndie''........ acr Ruth Logan .... scr Flintlock ...... scr Jtoyal de Oro-\< 12 Grace McKlwyn . scr Colcno Parrisli .12 Peter Mitchell . scr Mtdsulpmaid ... 24 Portliest scr Royal de Orp's form at Forbury Park should cause him to be well backed in the Eastbourne Handicap, in which Grace McElwyn, Cole'ne Parrish, and "Midsliipmaid may offor most resistance. The form in the February Handicap, however, should provide a good lino to this event, •with horses racing well'in the earlier heat and escaping a. penalty almost sure to show up. There is likely to be support for Royal de Oro, Grace HcElwyn, and Midshipmaid. * 5.2*: ATI SEVOIR HANDICAP, £160; 2.49 class; I*4 miles. Bracken ...... scr Fornbrook Lass . 12 Jimmy de Oro .. scr Little Nelson ... 12 William Tell ... scr Mocast 12 Young Frank ... ,scr Purser ;. 24 Agile 12 Somerby ...... 4S The same field as has accepted for the Dominion Handicap, with the single addition of Purser, is due to line up for the Au Revoir Handicap, run over ■ a quarter of * a mile shorter distance. I£ Agile should fail earlier he might make amends here,-and he is so quick a beginner as a rule that even a penalty might not prevent him succeeding again. Jlocast and Little Nelson aro speedy ports for the distance,. and Purser, though giving away 24 yards to the front-markers, is a brilliant sprinter .who races well when fresh. _ Fcrnbrook Lass is also reported to be in good'nick, and'were, lie to begin decently Jimmy de Oro would bo a prospect. Earlier running may assist in solving this problem, but three who meanwhile read well are Agile, Mocast, and Purser. •.•■•■
