FANCY DRESS BALL

MONOWAI PRIZES

A most successful fancy dress ball took place on the recent Sounds cruise of the Monowai. Prizes were given after a very successful show, and the ingenuity of the winners was much admired. For the costumes made on board, Miss D. Gluestein (Paper Bag) was the first prize winner, Mr. F.: Isaac (Spanish Onion) taking that for the men. Miss Perm brought the best costume on board (Hawaiian Dancer), and Mr. L. Sweeney (Chinaman) was successful in the same section. Miss J. Pearce (Baby Bliss) was judged to be the most original, and Mr. G. Smith (Going to the Dogs) was also successful. The winning 'couple in the treasure hunt.was Mrs. and Miss Whitehead;, runners-up, Mrs. Hornblow and Mrs. Middleton. In the gymkhana Miss Nicholls and Mr. Herriot were the winners of the potato' race: Miss Nicholls and Mr. McCallum .in the three-legged race; Miss Woolliams, ladies' "shoe race"; Miss Mills and Mr. McGregor, "bottle race"; Miss Parry and Mr. Tilbury, "Wheelbarrow race"; and Mr. H. Freeman in "R. U. There Mike." The special prizes for children were won by Joy Neale, D. Harding, and Master Freeman. 'twAS- 0?? 1 motor la"nch (presented by i Mr. Walter Blundell) was the subject of a competition, and the winner was Miss P. R. Scott. The proceeds of this were for the Missions to Seamen. '
