"AMEN" AFTER HYMNS
VVERY SENSIBLE COMMENT"
-(By Telegraph.)(Special to v the '""Evening Post.")
DUNEDINi February 6,
There is no established enactment as regards the application of the Amen in the services of the-Anglican Church in New Zealand, said an Anglican dignitary today, referring-to the cabled report that the habit of singing "Amen" after hymns was deplored by the Archbishop of York when presiding at the London Church Musicians' banquet.
The Archbishop's comment was regarded by the church dignitary as very sensible. "As a matter of fact," he said, "some hymns include the Amen in their printed form, and others do not, and are sung accordingly. In the non-episcopal churches theV.Amen is also largely a matter of usage. Many of the older and move conservative members of some of-these churches regard its introduction with a. certain amount of suspicion. Dr. James Moffatt, the eminent Biblical authority who was here some time ago, was a very firm believer in the forceful use of the Amen, and considered it should be given full and significant expression." . •; . i -.'.""
