DARWIN, February 6.
The whereabouts of Parer and Hemsworth is still a mystery. Captain Youell, pilot of the air-mail aeroplane Athena stated that they were reported to have left Rambang (Java) for Koer pang- (Timor), but the flyers .had not arrived at the latter place. Captain Youell sajjs that it is possible that Parer and Hemsworth encountered difficulties between Rambang and Koepang and returned to Rambang. ,
An earlier message from Rangoon reported that Parer and Hemsworth had not been heard of since leaving Mergui on January 30, and it is feared they, had been .lost at ..sea. This was discounted by a Darwin message which stated that Parer and Hemsworth accompanied the air-mail aeroplane Athena from' Singapore, but parted in the vicinity of Rambang, since when the aeroplane had not been reported.
Last week Parer and Hemsworth were missing for three days betw.een Mergui and Victoria Point, after having made a forced landing. They are two Australian pilots who had been frying in New Guinea until shortly before the Centenary Air Race. They started in the race flying a Fairy Fox, similar to that in which Bairies and Gilman crashed, entered by the New Guinea Flight Syndicate, but abandoned the race at Paris. They intended, they said, to continue to Australia as flying tourists. Parer achieved world fame for his flight from England to' Australia with Mclntosh in 1919-20:
