RIDER'S ACCIDENTAL DEATH

CHRISTCHUECH, February 6. An inquest into the death, of Charles Edward Blacklock, dirt track rider, on January 27 after receiving injuries in a race at the Monica Park speedway on the previous, evening, was held today. > The Coroner, Mr. E. D. Mosley, found that Blacklock died of laceration of the brain arid a. fracture of the base of the skull, all the evidence showing that the occurrence was purely accidental* ,
Raymond Stavert Taylor, a participant, in. the race m which Blacklock was injured, said that the track was m good condition. The starters were Higgins, Kirkmari, Blackibck, and himself At the time the accident occurred Higgins, who had a handicap, was leading from witness ard Blacklock, who were close together. Higgins 'fell in an overshde on the tend, and 'witness Who was on the outside of, Blacklock swerved to the right to avoid the machine as it lay across the track. Witness touched the back wheel and fell. At the same tune Blacklock 'swerved to the left, but hit Higgms's machine in the centre and was catapulted into the au\ His machine followed him and struck him. on the back of the head. ; Kirkman, also gave evidence corroborating [Taylor's account. Both, with other witnesses, declared that* the whole occurrence was accidental.
