BACONER PIGS
EXPORT POSITION
.Speaking at the -meeting of the Dominion', executive of the ;New Zealand Farmers' Union last night^' Mr.^N'. Campbell said that at th£.pre?erit -time local curers of bacon were bidding keenly for the limited supplies of bacon pigs at* prices': from-s}d..'to s|d per lb. He believed that unless the position was handled quickly and the farmers given directional guidance and'assistance in carrying as many of their, pigs as possible to baconer ■weights, the export of baconers ■would come ahnost to a standstill^ '
While he . realised that the new Dairy Board had many - problems to face at the moment, this and the fulfilment of . the quota allowance on bacoher carcasses by the British Government; he believed, represented the first and most urgent problem)theyi'had to tackle. How that was^to bevar- tranged must be left to the bo'ardr?^
