BROUGHT BACK FROM CANADA

The story of the hold-up of a paymaster, Herbert Ward, by an armed man who stole £1299. and-escaped in a waiting motor-car with a confederate was told in the City Police Court today, when Albert Snow, aged 35, labourer, was charged with having, in company with another man named Leslie Ritchie, robbed Ward of £1299, also with having wounded him.

Detectives gave evidence that Snow had been brought back from Vancouver. He had made a statement involving Ritchie, who had not yet been arrested.. Snow declared that he was unaware of Ritchie's, plans when he agreed to drive the car on the morning of the robbery, otherwise he would have refused to be implicated in the affair. Snow was committed for trial. Bail was granted at £500.

A sensational hold-up took place in Barrack Street on June 26, when two men from the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board, who had just drawn £1300 from the Bank of New South Wales, were robbed of the sum by a man armed with a revolver, who entered - their car before it started to move off. In the course of a struggle with the three men in the car, the intruder's revolver was discharged and one of the occupants was wounded in the left arm.
