TOM BROWN PICNIC

BOYS' DAY OUT

Over 100 d Tom Brown League boys journeyed to Day's Bay on Saturday for the annual Tom Brown's picnic, organised by James Smith, Ltd. The boys assembled in Pringle Avenue early in the morning and marched from there through the city to the Eastbourne Ferry Wharf where they boarded the Muritai.- The march to the ferry was led by the Regimental Band and the trip across the harbour was enlivened by band music, and added > interest was given by a cruise around Somes Island. At Day's Bay the boys had an enjoyable tune, swimming, playing games, and taking part in a sports meeting arranged for them. Results of the races are: Boys' race, under nine years: Ken Childs, 1; Harry Carr, 2. Boys' race, nine years and under 10; lan Hay, 1; B. McCarthy, 2. Boys' race, 10 years and under 11: Robertson, 1; Longhurst, 2. Boys' race, 13 years nad over: Phillips 1; Fitzgerald, 2. . Boys' race, 11 years and under 12: Quinn, 1; Brook, 2. Boys' race, 12 and under 13: Whiteman 1; Russell, 2. . Three-legged race: O'Connor and Whiteman, ]; Calwwell and Smith, 2. Wheelbarrow race: Dustin and Billow, 1; Bell and Bulow, 2. Pick-a-back race: Huggins and Edwards, 1; Williams and Blackmore, 2. Tom Brown championship: Phillips, 1Fitzgerald, 2; William, 3. Bandsmen's race: Newton, I; Greenoudi, 2; Leask, 3.
