HERE AND THERE
Dinner for Dancers. Miss Mabel Johnson and Mr. Jock Hutchinson, of Auckland, were the guests at a dinner party arranged by Miss Phyllis 'Bates at the Royal Oak Hotel on v Saturday evening. Miss Johnson is visiting Wellington, in her capacity of examiner for the National Society of Teachers of Dancing (London), to conduct examinations in ballroom dancing. Those present included visitors from other towns: Miss M. Wallace (Dunedin); Miss E. Comyns Thomas, Mrs. Leo Bowden. Miss Marion Grose, Miss Jessie Dickson (Christchurch); Miss Evelyn Wright,. Miss Molly Benjamin, Miss Alex Strachan (Wanganui); Miss Mildred Hamilton (Gisborne); Miss Beth Parkes (Feilding); also Mrs. Chatfield. Mrs. J. Young, Misses Esme Geddis, Gwenethe Walshe, Eva Draper, Marjorie Newport, Thelm'a Bartholomew, Hazel Martin, Mottram. B. Miller, P. Robertson, B. Thorbum,1 Messrs. R. J. McGarvie, Daniels, and Somerville. Messages of regret at being unable to attend the function were received from Mr. and Mrs. Southern • Golledge and Mrs. Joe Knowsley. Bridge Party. Mrs. Godfrey Wilson was hostess at a delightful bridge party last Friday in honour of Mrs. C. E. Richardson, who is leaving for England shortly. Bridge was played in the drawingroom, which was beautifully decorated with gladioli 'and tiger lilies. Afternoon tea was served in the drawingroom, where gladioli and tiger lilies were again " greatly admired. The hostess received her guests in a black ensemble, while the guest of honour wore a wine frock with matching hat. Bridge was resumed' after 'afternoon tea, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. - Invitations Issued. Invitations have been issued by the Orient Steam Navigation Company, and Captain L. V. Innes, D.S.C.,' for a reception on board R.M.S. Otranto, between eleven and half-past twelye on Saturday morning. Obituary. The death occurred at Glenmore, Auckland, on Friday of Mrs. R. Newdick, aged 89, who for many years was a resident of the Thames, where her husband (who predeceased her many years ago) followed the fortunes of gold mining. Mrs. Newdick leaves two daughters and two sons—Mrs. L. Henderson (Wellington), Mrs. R. JensseD (Auckland), Mr. William Newdick (Maketu), and Mr.. Phillip Newdick (Lithgow, N.S.W.)
