Gorse fires near Avon Street, Island Bay, were responsible for two calls being received by the Fire Brigade last night, one at 10.48 p.m. and the other at 12.38 a.m. The only other call today was to a gorse fire at Momingtonr at 11.25 a.m. In no case was any damage done.
Mrs. C. Devon, of 520 Adelaide Road, was knocked down by a motor-lorry at the corner of Courtenay Place and A lion Street on Saturday, and suffer* ed a fractured left clavicle, a lacerated wound to her scalp,' and a lacerated wound to her.left wrist. The-Fret Ambulance gave her medical attention and took her to hospital, from which sh» was later abla^o go home.- .
