(By TeiegrapU-rPress Association.) . CHRISTCHURCH, January 27. The broaddding season opened-on Saturday evening. There were two overseas riders, Ken Kirkman and Ray Taylor, .md also a Christchurch rider, Charles JJlacklock, who has ridden in England during recent English summers. The A grade handicap ended in tragedy. Kirkman, Taylor, and Blacklqck were all in the final, but Blaeklock and Kirknnm fell- and only Taylor finished. Results were: —B grade scratch race, three-quarters of a mile: W. Duinplcton 1, F. Forbes 2. Time, lmin Osec. A grade scratch race: C. Rhodes ],_ J. Hobsuii 2. Time. Imin 4 4-osec.
