SILVERSTREAM OUTBREAK

Sparks from the engines of the Wairarapa express set fire on Saturday; afternoon to tho dry grass by the sida of the railway line at Silverstrcam, and in tho stiff westerly wind the fire soon assumed alarming proportions. The church or. the hillside was threatened, as well as several houses, and only tho prompt action of the local fire brigade saved a belt of pino trees from destruction. The brigade soon hail the fire under control, and it was extinguished as rapidly as it ■ had started. '
