North-westerly gale, backing to the west and tonight to the southwest, but decreasing tomorrow.
Weather cloudy and squally; rain probable. Temperatures becoming cooler.'
The general forecast issued at noon today for the Dominion as a. whole is for strong winds, gale force being reached jn many places. North ot Greymouth and Akaroa winds will bo westerly jn direction, but wilj bade' to' ilio south-west within twenty-four hours. Elsewhere soutlierlios may. be expected: The weather will bo unsettled and squally with rain and there will be Bonie heavy falls in places. Temperatures will be copier.
The depression referred to yestorday as having moved on to the southern part of tho country has deepened considerably and now covers the greater part of the Dominion, its contro this morning being over the southern districts. Consequently north-westerly to westerly winds have increased in force generally, and gales were reported this morning in many places, especially in the central areas.' Since last r.ighE conditions havo become unsettled in western districts from Taranaki (southward and over tho southern half of the South Island and rain has fallen. Fino and warm weather continues in Auckland. A light southerly wind prevailed there, yesterday, but o westerly; brcezo was blowing this morning. Wellington had a beautifully sunny; day, 13.1 hours of bright sunshine being- recorded. A northerly wind prevail^l and freshened during the afternoon. After 11 p.m. it became stronger, and n, north-westerly galo has been blowing at times since ea^y this morning. A gust with a veloe'ty- of 08 miles an hour was recordef at 5.20 a.m. today and again at 9.20 a"m. Tfco ■weather at 9 p-.m. was dull and threat-
