NO CHEAP HORSE YET
TOUT LE MONDE'S SUCCESS
Tout le Monde, winner ,of the Manawatu Cup aiid .President's. Handicap at the Manawatu Meeting this week, is one of those high-priced .yearlings who have required an almost exorbitant measure ofi patience before they have made any decent return on the outlay that was nccesHaiy to acquire them. At the 1931 January sales Dr. M. G. LouissOn took the bidding to 800;gnineas befoie he obtained possession ot this attractive colt, and he has hsd to wait1 nearly four years befoie gaining an important success with him. Even yet Tout le Monde, is no cheap horse I at the price paid ior him, I Tout lo Monde was byed by Mr. G. M. \ Cuirio at the Koatanui Stud, and he is the second New Zealand foal of the imported Polymelus Jelly mare Aspic, who represents a good winning English line. Aspic's first foal, to Thespian, was Aspian, one of the best two-year-olds of his year, but unluckily meeting with an accident early in his three-year-old career and having to be destroyed. The mare's second foal (Tout le Monde) was to Limond, and her next living foal,, also to Limond, will be one of the Jots offered at next month's yearJing; sales, at. Trenthani, *■' It was 'early apparent that Tout fe Monde was not going immediately to fulfil the high expectations his owner and trainer (T! Lloyd)' held about him, for, although-.' lie.-was several times placed his only win as a two-year-old was in a' nursery handicap at Treritharu.' The next season lie worn the Otaio Plato, at' Riccarton and the Rangiora'Cup, and also ran fourths in both Derbies, but he: was'proving more a. disappointment, than anything else. He failed to win a race last season, but he Kan quite creditably in the New Zealand Cup, in which he was going, well till he encountered trouble half a mile from home. Then, before.the Metropolitan .on. the final' day at Riccarton he bolted' and crashed with his ridei (J. W. Jennings), "who was rendered unconscious. A spell became necessary, and after his return in the late autumn his form was very poor. However, he began to do better in his racing this season, and after being just beaten among the hacks on the final day at the Cup Meeting he won a hack distance \ event at Ashburton prior to his trip to 'the North Islands His record to- date reads: — ■'■•■■■'( •'- Starts. Wins. Stakes. ...■■,v £ At 2 years ~.,12, 1 370 . At S years ........ '18 2 360 At 4 years ' 19 — 85 At 5 years : ........ 13. 3 , i 67ft Totais ........ ,62 6 £1485 Tout le Monde has been the outstanding handjeapper at the current Manawatu Meeting, but it must be admitted that bis opposition his-been very poor on form, and the;',vace¥:'he has'won'have been indiffereritly contested. However, he is evidently a- much-improved gelding nowi probably having'i;equired age" in whicft to acquire1 his full' strength, and- it will therefore be of interest, to # witness how he performs when nexri he" is risked to face goodclass open conipany. ; His race cm New Year's Day. isI'to be the Marton Cup, but, outside possibly of Cuddle, he will not have any serious fresh'''rivals to meet here, so he will have to -tfait for the Wellington Cup for his true test.
