The Lawn Tennis Association, at its annual meeting in London on December 8, failed, to show the necessary twothirds majority for a motion to prohibit amateurs from writing for newspapers for payment, the voting being 53 to 47 in favour of the motion. Nevcrthele&s, the meeting decided that British delegates should 'urge tho International Lawu Tennis Federation to amend the rules to prohibit amateurs from accepting money or pecuniary advantage or posing for or permitting action films to be taken of them, or for advertising, or permitting their name to be advertised as the author of a book or a newspaper article of which they are not tha actual author, or for giving instruct tions in tennis by' private or press correspondence. Sir Samuel Hoare was re-elected president. .He declared that the association's relations with professionals had been most cordial. The professionals had voluntarily asked the association to take charge of their interests,, resulting in the association arranging tho recent Eastbourne professional fhn in pioush ip. f'Thu new relationship between ■amateurs and professionals promises to be mutually beneficial," he said. "Nothing is further from the truth than the suggestion of hostility between Hie association and the professionals. We are. particularly "pleased, to we the latter's progress in England, and their bigh. standards of play."
