GRIMMETT AND GIFFEN
It is amazing' h.onr Clarrie Grimmett in. spite of his years goes on from, success to success. t)n Christinas Day he had his 42nd birthday. At the same time he was helping South Australia .to a win over Queensland in a Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide. The cabled reports mentioned. that a new record score for the State had been made by South Australia—G44 for seven wickets. This is not nearly1 a record for any State, Victoria on one occasion having made 1107 against New South Wales, and; there being more than a dozen other totals of upwards of 700.; IVo special reference was made to another exceptional performance. In the match Grimmett took sixteen wickets, a feat only once provibusly performed in Sheffield Shield cricket. In Queensland's first innings Grimmett took nine wickets for 180 runs and in the second innings seven for 109 runs. This places Grimmett on one of the pedestals of distinction previously occupied only by Gf. GiilPon, who in. the .1804----95 season, playing for ( South Australia against New South Wales at Adelaide, took eight for 77'tind eight'for 100.
