END OF FIRST ROUND

The series of matches played in the A grade of, the Wellington Mercantile League's competitions on Saturday brought the first round to a close and left | State Fire, who were again successful, with a ,five-point lead in the championship. Customs are second and, except for Nivens, who have scored only one win, the remaining teams are. on Aery even terms. Fast wickets were again the order on Saturday, but though somn batsmen found the conditions to their liking, scores, on the whole,, were moderate. .Centuries were scored by Calvert ■ (Nivens) and Crisp (Q6\vans),'bdth of whom were undefeated.
