DUNEDIN TO CHRISTCHURCH
(By Telegraph—PreM Association.) DUNEDIN, November IS
During tho past few days an argument arose over time in -which a I motor-car could accomplish the journey^ from Dunedin to Christchurch. A motorist claimod that ho could cover tho distance in 4 hours 50 minutos or lo&s; a fannor hold that he could not. A wagor of £50 a sido was handed to a st.ikolioldor, and tho motorist left Dunedin at noon on Friday for tho northernl town.
Tho other party thought that lie, too, ■would liko to go to Christchurch, presumably to soo what happened to his monoy. Ho therefore wont out to tho aerodrome and engaged a machine to convoy him to Christchurch. Ho was soon on tho way, but the aviator found that the oxuboranes of his farmer friend was rather disturbing, so he swung round and returned to tho aerodrome. y In the meantime, tho driver of tho car was speeding on his way north, ami ho reached his appointed destinaI tioa—the gates of Christchurch Hospital—atl—at 4.33 p.m., or 17 minutes under the time limit allowed. As the distance by road to Christchureh is 236 miles, the car averaged about 52J miles am. hour, and completed tho journey in somo 2J lionra less than tho time Oeeupied by express trains.
