MR. COATES'S MISSION

ACTION WITH AUSTRALIA

COMMENT OF ''TIMES"

United .tress tosdiUon-rfßy^Eiectrio -lele-

trtph—Copyriiht. LONDON, November 31.

"The Times," in a leader, says if Mr. J. G. Coates during lvi, forthcoming \ihU to Australia , manages to reach an agiecment with the Commonwealth, on common action.in rcspcel to future nieat and daily exports to Britain it will ccitainly btiongthe'n their hand in negotiations with Britain, but it will not be easy, because a strong New Zealand opinion fools it to bo unfair that while New Zealand is treating British goods more favourably than Australia does, both countries should receive tho same treatment on the British market.

Furthermore, the same New Zealand opinion holds that some of tho Commonwealth's marketing schemes are really subsidies, giving tho Australian exporter an artificial advantage over the New Zoalander.

Anyway, the discussions should be a'useful preparation for tho more comprehensive informal discussions between Britain and tho Dominions during the jubilee' celebrations commemorating tho jubilee of the King's accession to the throne.
