REPEATED ATTACKS
BOMB INJURES LEADER

BLENHEIM, November 9
A Tory Channel .whaling party harpooned a hugo whale from tho speed launch Cachalot, and the mammal sounded but came up under the launch, throwing the craft high in the air and starting a couple of planks, while the shock exploded a spare bomb in the launch. Joseph Pcrano, leader of the party, who was operating tho harpoon gun right over tho bomb, was severely injured, a large part of his. thigh and back muscles being torn away. The harpoon lino was hurriedly severed and the launch, in a sinking condition, made full speed for the' beach,' which was reached in the nick of time. Perano was removed1 to the Picton Hospital, where ho was operated on. His condition is serious but not grave. The other occupants of the launch are believed to have sustained minor injuries, but details are meagre.
