HEALTH CAMP
COUNTY COUNCIL SUPPORT
The Wellington Children's' Health Camp Association has written to the Makara County Council asking for its assistancQ in developing the sale' of health stamps betweon the present date and Christinas. It was explained that one penny of each twopenny 'itamp was dovoted to the upkeep of tho health camp for children. The other penny was postal revenue. The association stated that the camps were established for tho purpose of improving tho ,health of delicate and under-nourished children. The evidence showed that delicate children -who spent some weeks in such camps, under medical supervision and nursing care, derived a marked improvement to their health. The camp building at the Otaki camp was a most suitable one, and even in bad weather every provision was made for the .welfare of the children. The site of tho camp was in every way excellent,- being dry and near the seashore. ' At yesterday's meeting of the council Councillor E. Windley supported assistance being given to the health camp movement, and spoko warmly in favour of the drink-more-milk movement in th interests of health, especially of children. He referred in appreciative terms to the health work of the Plunket Society, but pointed out that the benefits in the health of infants wore to some extent lost in the .Temaimtfg pre-school years. . w Tho chairman (Councillor R. W. Bothamley) concurred % with the remarks of Councillor Windley. The Plimkct Society, he said, intended that their treatment should be continued after infancy. . -.V'Vi.,, Councillor Horrobin referred to the cost of pasteurisation of nulk -in the, city, and pointed out the advantages and lessened cost of pure fresh milk or even of chilled milk. ; On tho motion of the chairman it was agreed to purchaso health stamps to the value of £2.
