The following report has been received from the Sandhills Gold Mining' Com-' pany:—Work on the company's claim is progressing satisfactorily. During; the last two months the river has been very much above normal, and several floods have been experienced. ■' At present the nozzle is being used to assist the river in deepening the "cut." This is proving verysuccessful, and the manager expects that within a fortnight this deepening will have progressed sufficiently to allow "the whole of the river when normal to flow through the cut. The pipes necessary for the repairs to the dam are now ready for dispatch to the claim, and as soon as these arrive the necessary repairs will be carried out. In the meantime, there is a copious supply of water for all requirements.; BELL-KILGOUR. The secretary of the Bell-Kilgour Gold Mining Co., Ltd. (Mr.^F.R. Thompson), advises receipt of report from the manager, dated November 3, reading as follows:—The south stope drive was advanced 13ft 6in for fair values. No. 2 south branch was advanced 25ft. There are a lot of boulders through- the wash, which make values on the "floor" irregular, but most of the wash carries a little fine gold. For 22ft/ of blocking out at the east pillar some patches of good gold were won. The cut at Murray's claim was advanced 13ft 6in; the work is going through an oil tail race, which has been filled up with large boulders. One hundred and thirty-three yards of wash treated yielded 19ozldwt 15gr. .] . WAITAHU. The annual report of the Waitahu' Gold Mining Company states.—Sluicing; operations were commenced on October 20, 1933, and from that date until December. 20, 1933, stripping operations were carried out on the top materiaj, but the water supply during this period was inadequate. Elevating - operations on' the bottom; wash were commenced on January 8, and the gold won to the close of the company's financial year was 2870z 2dwt. .The paddock was completed by October 6, and from the close of ,the company'svfinancial period until that date 1640z 2dwt were won, making a total'-of 4510z 4dwt for the paddock. ; . ; • The company's- operations . have been hampered by stoppages caused , through various breaks .in; the•- race and by insufficiency of water for the conduct of elevating operations. The total cubic yardage worked from October 20, 1933, until October 6, 1934, when the paddock was completed,-amounted to ' 173,000 cubic. yards, but this includes a substantial quantiy: of barren ground -which it. was necessary to remove. The gold-bearing ground contained in' the paddock comf prised 96;000 cubic yards, the size of the paddock being approximately threequarters of an acre. The average value per cubic yard of the 96,000 cubic yards of auriferous ground' treated works out at B%d per cubic yard: on the' realised figure of the gold, which averages £7 10s per ounce. When this paddock was worked it was discovered that many tunnels had previously: been driven throughthe bottom wash, which naturally affected' the value per cubic yard recovered. from the paddock. Regular, dish prospects"taken: by the manager showed tliat the values in the face were improving -steadily, and better results are anticipated from the next paddock., i.. ,' ? ,: . The resul.t, for the period to August 4 shows, a loss' of £433 14si lid, but from that date to the date of completion of the paddock' the profit made was sufficient to cover this! On April '27 it became necessary to make^.an issue of debentures in order to strengthen the company's financial position. This debenture isstie was strongly supported by shareholders, and the company's, financial position is now extremely sound. SALES OF SHARES.
