MELBOURNE,: This Day. , Thoroughly refreshed -. after his spell at "Ercildoune," the-Duke of Gloucester is now :touring Northern. Victoria, where he is experiencing the hottest weather since his1 arrival in Australia, The shade- temperature'at the. open-air reception at Mildur.a was 100 degrees. In this district, "the California of Australia," the Duke was greatly interested in the orange-growing and drie'a-fruit activities in, the. fertile Murray Valley. , '' At Ouyen the Duko received a welcome from soldier settlers. It was, explained to the Duke that the settlers, despite physical disabilities and unkind seasons, were proving Empire builders in peace no less than in war.
Four hundred people wero entertained by Bear-Admiral Surges Watson, commander of the New Zealand Naval Division, at a dance on H.M.S. Diomede and H.M.S. Dunedin on Wednesday. .The; ships..were brilliantly lit. and moored together with, connecting gangways, presenting a; bright scene, and made an important New Zealand contribution, to the celebrations.
