HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. today. : The Local Legislation Bill was reported'from the Local Bills Committee with; amendments.

Beplying 'to Mr. K. J. Holyoake (Government, Motueka), tho Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) said it was regretted that in view of the large amount involved the request for payment , of- boarding .allowances for children attending secondary and technical schools' could not be granted. As a matter of fact, the concession had never been granted to pupils attending those schools. It was estimated that it would cost at least £18,000 to grant the extension asked for.
