Tho rain continued during all the work, and the trial grass track soon became greasy. Horses with engagements at the, Now Zealand Cup Meeting provided the main interest. Gold Trail (N. S. Jones) ran nine furlongs alone, doing the last mile in lniiu S3sec, each half in 57isee. She- looks well after her recent racing, and was not bustled along this morning. She is at present quartered in J. AY. Lowe's stable, but J. M. Camoron will bo returning to take her south on Monday evening. Might (J. Gunn) and AValton Park (J. D. Martin) were associated over nine furlongs, and they ran tho last mile in Imin 50sec, tho first half of this portion in 54see, and tho last half in SGscc. Might handled tho track tho better and finished a couple of lengths in front. Tho Awapuni apprentice!/. H. Jones has been engaged to xiflo Might in the New Zealand. Cup. ; AValton Park's younger full-sister Chaste (Martin) slipped over six furlongs alone in Imin. 22sec, the last halilmile in 55sec. Grand Sport (A. Macdonald) did a round of three-quarter paco work with Bay Area. He was kickodiat tho barrier in his race at Trentham last Saturday, but tho wound has healed. Sporting Song (Macdonald) did a round ot pacing only. Tho trainer of this pair. A. .Melnto'sh, went back to Gisborno after tho AVcllington Meeting to raeO Bing Boy at tho Poverty Bay fixture, but this half-brother to Sporting Blood broko down in a final gallop beforo the meeting. Mclntosh ' returns tomorrow and takes his Riccarton pair south on Monday. Grand Sport is definitely to contest the Stowards', but it is probable that Sporting Blood's first-day race will bo tho Riccarton Handicap. L. J. EUia is to rido Sporting Blood in the Derby. Red Sun (Jones) did one ot his usual good gallops in slipping over tho last milo of his work in Imin SOsec alone, tho first half in 54|sec; tlie last half in 55.^300. Synagogue, who will be ridden in the Derby by W.-J. Broughton, was worked only, and si> was Semper Paratus, who will be ridden in tho south by G. Kidgwiiy. This pair and Might will bo T. R. George's team for tho Bouth, and they will probably leave on AVcdnesday night.
