HUTT VALLEY C.A.
General disappointment was felt by, cricketers in the Hutt "Valley last Saturday when it was announced that all games had been postponed. To many players tho decision was surprising, particularly as the weather was all that could bo desired; in fact many players actually attended various grounds fully expecting to play, only to be informed that all games had been called off. However, quite a number were able to en* jay friendly ipractice games. Tho growth of the Hutt Valley Cricket Association since the 1927-1928 season has been somewhat exceptional. To begin its first season the association had only four teams—Gear Co., East End (now in the Wellington Cricket Association), "Chronicle," and Woollen Mills. A handsome shield was donated to the association by Sir Thomas Wilford and Mr. J. Kerr to be competed for annually by the teams playing in tho association. This shield is now known as the Wilford-Kerr Shield and is at present held by Wills Cricket Club. In the second season tho • association's team' strength increased to six, but it was in the: 1931----1932 season that the association commenced its notable advance, nine teams competing in their competition. The 1932-1933 season brought more teams,' and from twelve the number increased to sixteen in the 1933-1934 season. In two years tho entries have been doubled, there being 24 teams for this season's competitions. Gear Co; and Woollen Mills Clubs share the honour of being the only clubs that have been with the association sinc.e the beginning. This will be their eighth season. Empire and Eandwick lyivo both beeni in the association since tho 1931-1932 season and are again participating this season. Meadows, Waiwhetu, and Wills have had teams in tho association since the 1932-1933 season, and all will be taking part again in this season's games. Metiers United, Bell Park, Gracefield and General Motors first played in the association last season, and have again entered teams for this season's competitions. New clubs affiliated this season are Taita, V.M.C.A., Trafalgar Park, and Central.
The following is the last of winners of the Wilford-Kerr Shield:—l 927-1928 East End and Woollen Mills (bracketed), 1928-1929 East End, 1929-1930 "Chronicle," 1930-1031 Woollen Mills, 1931-1932 "Chronicle" and Bandwiek (bracketed), 1932-1933 Meadows, 1933----1934 Wills.
