NATIONAL MEETING

The suggestion has come from Otago that it would bo better if the New Zea.land track and field championships, instead of being held in March, were held a month or so earlier. It is felt that too many athletes place too high a value on winning a New Zealand title, and that, as a result of this, make too few appearances at meetings in their own centres, a state of affairs that is-not for the good of athletics. Reference is made to the fact that when the Australasian championships were held at Wellington in 1927 the New Zealand track and field meeting was held successfully in Christchurch in December. It is not suggested that December should be agreed upon as tho regular date for the meeting, but that early in February at the latest might well be considered.

The championships for this season have been fixed by tho AVest Coast (North Island) Centre for March 1 and 2, but tho dates have not yet. been confirmed by the .N.Z.A.A.A. Council. Until they arc confirmed, centres cannot very well decide upon the date for their provincial meetings.
