THE WAITAKi SCHEME

OPENING CEREMONY

Tomorrow afternoon his Excellency tho Governor-General (Lord BledisloeJ will start one of tlio main turbines at the recently-completed Waitaki hydroelectric works, and thus inaugurate the biggest scheme of its kind in the Dominion.

The opening ceremony will be attend ed by at least eighty members of the Legislature, including tho Prime Ministor (tho Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes), the Minister of Public Works (tho Hon. J. Bitchener), and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. M. J. Savage). Tho Gov-ernor-General and the Parliamentarians will leave Wellington tonight for Lyt. teltou and will be conveyed by a special train to tho site of the dam. A luncheon is being provided by the Government, and it will bo followed by the opening ceremony, at which Lord Blcdislbe will be tho chief speaker. Addresses will also be given by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Public Works, Uic Leader of tho Opposition, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P. for Pahaerston, who is president of the Power Boards' Association, and possibly others. Tho Parliamentary- tfain will leave the works at 5.15 p.m., and tne Lyttelton ferry steamer is being delayed to enable the Wellington visitors to rcj turn that night.
