"DENSE OBSERVERS"

An amusing interlude occurred in th 3 Arbitration Court at Dunedin on Wednesday afternoon when counsel was cross-examining a medical witness regarding the state of health of a person concerned in the case being heard, states the "Otago Daily Times." Counsel was endeavouring to obtam from the witness an idea of the outward symptoms of a disease from which the person was said to. be suffering, and inquired of him whether certain of the latter's workmates would be likely to notice those symptoms, or whether they could be regarded as "dense observers." "It is surprising how dense observers can be," said the witness. "But would yon consider these men to be dense observers?" persisted counsel. "Well, I've had a good deal of experience with students," began the witness, but before ho could go further his remarks wero lost in the rippln of laughter that ran around the court.
