ATTACK ON KWANTUNG

HEAVY FIGHTING REPORTED

HONG KONG, October 25. Following weeks of apprehension, 90,000 Reds massed and crossed the Kwantung border from Kiangsi, making desperate onslaughts on the frontier defences.

Cantonese troops are being rushed to the localities affected, and are fighting gallantly, but it is reported that one brigade was annihilated.

It is reported from * Chiukwau that fighting is developing on all fronts from Tayu. to Chun-mun-ling, and that the Reds are battering the Cantonese linos.

Two air squadrons left Canton with \ the intention of counter-attacking. Refugees are pouring into Canton.

Kiangsi is the province Of China immediately north of Kwantung, of whicJ Canton is the capital.
