SWIMMING
V.M.C.A. CLUB MEETS
A large number ot members attended the annual meeting last night of the y.M.C.A. Swimming Club. Mr. K. P. Staples occupied the chair.
"It is the desire of the V.M.C.A. Board at all times to foster good, clean sport within the association, and the directors trust that the club, having successfully passed through two seasons since its reorganisation, may speedily become a strong and virile body, worthy of the traditions established by the original club in the years prior to the war," stated Mr. E. H. Nimmo, president of the V.M.C.A., in a letter to the club.
Eleven new members were elected at the meeting, and it was decided to attempt to form a water polo team. Messrs. K. V. Staples and K. S. Henry stated that they intended donating trophies to encourage learners and those who showed improvement in swimming. An early Commencement with life-savin? classes is to be made under Mr. D. S. McLachlan. The opening of the season for the club is to be held at Mr. B. Sutherland's swimming pool at "Homewood," on the occasion of the V.M.C.A. garden party on December 1.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing season:—Patron, Mr.E. 11. Niimuo; president, Mr. K. P. Staples; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. J. A. Chartres, A' G. BallinKcr, G. T. Robinson. F. Empson, J. D. Hunter, Dr. Alex. Gillies, Dr. Montgomery Spencer; captain. Mr. 0., S. Oliver; vice-captain, Mr. L. Waller; handicappcr, Mr. I\. S. Henry; secretary-trea-surer, Mr. J. White; assistant-secretary, Mr. X, Ingram; delegate to centre, Mr. K. Osborn; committee, Messrs. G. D. Hall, T. Hulme.'L. Spcnce , D. S. McLachlan.
