AID TO RACING CLUBS
TOTALISATOR TAX
Again' this session Parliament is being asked by tho Government to afford a small measuro of assistance to racing clubs. Tho Finaneo Bill, introduced into the Houso of Bopresentatives yesterday, proposes to rcstoro to clubs, for the period from April 1, 1035, to July 31, 193 C, tho percentage of tho totalisator tax which was retained by them in 1933, namely, 8$ per cent. It was explained by tho Minister of Finance (Mr. Coates) that of the 12i per cent, totalisator tax the Crown in 1933 took 4 per cont. and tho clubs 8J per cent. In 1934 the State took 4A per cent., leaving tho clubs tho 8 per cent. Tt was now intondod to help the clubs, many of which were in a difficult position, by allowing them to retain 8J per cent.
