ALL NOW AT MELBOURNE
INTEREST IN HANDICAP

The winners of the speed contest in ihe Milclenhall to Melbourne Air Race were Scott and Black in v D.H. Comet (Britain), first, who arrived 19 hours 19 minutes ahead of Parmenlier and Moll in a Douglas D.C. 2 airliner (Holland), second, while Roscoe Turner and Clyde Pangborn in a Boeing Transport (United States), who landed 2 hours 42 minutes later, were third. Interest is now being displayed in the progress of the other competitors and in tho handicap event held in connection with the race. The only other competitors who have so far reached Australia arc Jones and Waller in the third D.H. Comet (Britain). On arriving at Darwin they flew lo Mount Isa, Queensland, where they stayed the night before proceeding lo Charlcvillc. The New Zcalanders, McGregor and Walker, in a Miles Hawk, are reported at Batavia. The Nelv Zealanders, Hcwclt and Kay, in a D.H. Dragon, havo left Bangkok Jor Singapore. Stodarl and Slodart in an Airspeed Courier A.5.5 (Britain) and Hausen and Jensen in a Dcsouller Mark II (Denmark) have arrived at Calcutta. Melrose in a D.H. Puss Moth has reached Allahabad.
All the others still in the race are reported at places west of Allahabad. The result of the handicap event, for which the first prize is £2000, will not be known for some days, as all the pilots are allowed 16 days in which to reach Melbourne and only actual flying time _ counts against the competitors. Flying time includes all stops at places en route other than 25 checking points, of which five are compulsory. _ The greatest handicap allowance is 42 hours 2 minutes 24 seconds lo Hansen.
