WELLINGTON TROTS
NOTES FROM HUTT PARK
(By "The Eaflle,")
Patrons of the Wellington Trotting Club are promised a most interesting day's racing on Saturday next, the acceptances taken all round being the best received for a meeting at the Park for some time. Compared -with the corresponding meeting last year, the acceptors show an increase of 12 for the eight races (86 as against 74). The principal event, the Cup Trial, has .10 engaged, against 8 last year, including the Xew Zealand Cup candidates liluc Mountain, Sunny Morn, Mountain Dell, Kollo, Lindbergh, Ked Shadow, and the champion Harold Logan. Another acceptor, Glenrossie, unfortunately missed making the first payment for tho New Zealand' Cup. The minor events have all filled well and include winners at the recent Auckland Meeting in Lady Fame and Transworthy, and the Greymouth winner Agility. Although the rain of last week prevented fast work being done on the tracks at Hutt Park, the majority of the local candidates are in solid condition, and will require little tuning up to be at their best on the day. The course proper is now in better order than it has ever been, and provided perfect going yesterday morning, when the outside of the track was open for fast work. Silver Berry was the first to work, covering a mile and a quarter in-good style. This daughter of Silvor Ribbon, who is now in the hands of Mr. Gruar, ■ of Johnsonville, has not raced since the 1032-33 season, when, trained by L. O. Thomas, she scored a first and a second at the Hawke's Bay June Meeting. Lord Wrack (Thomas) and Purser (D. Nyhan) were the next to go fast, covering a mile and a half together. Purser is not engaged at the forthcoming meeting, but Lord Wrack is an acceptor for tho October Handicap. t, a • ' it Glenrossie. (Thomas) was given a workout without the straps over 1% miles. Guy Star, who is back with E. Sullivan again, covered three circuits at about three-quarter pace. Flintlock (Thomas) and All Worthy (Hill) gave an attractive showing over 1% miles. Tho latter, though, not engaged on Saturday, is looking particularly well. * • » « Max Ilavoe (Leadbetter) and Super Tax (Walters) started from the two-mile post, being joined after covering half a mile by Cracker (driven by her owner), the trio finishing up in good style. » * a t» The trotter Guy o' Mine had First Judge as a companion over two circuits, but spoilt his display by breaking, appearing a trifle sore. • . . * w O v Guy Zolock (F. Cotton) and Logan's Pride (Cotton, sen.) covered a milo and a half on the grass. Although accepted for in the Cup Trial, the latter does not look like regaining his form of a few seasons btjek.
