An enjoyable gramophone recital was aiven to members of the Cerclo Francais recently, when the programme was in the hands of Mr.- Burtcr. Miss Smythson was hostess for the evening. Miss Coralic Sniythson read introductory remarks to the records, giving a brief outline of the composers' works. Madame Maunder gave a highly entertaining speech on the life of Gounod, who at the ago of 21 gained Le Prix de Home and studied under the directorship of the famous Sugres. As a personal recollection .the speaker mentioned Gounod's resemblance to her own father. The records included numbers from the works of Ambroise Thomas, Liszt, Meyerbeer, Verdi, Mozart, and Bach.
