SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL

IN AID OF WILFORD SCHOOL

The annual carnival in aid of the funds of the AVilford School, Petone, was held yesterday in the school grounds, and was a great success. The carnival, which helps to pay for tho cost of tho school's annual picnic, among other things, is being held on a bigger scale this year than in prior years. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr. AValter Nash, M.P., and among thoso present were Mr. AY. V. Dyer, chairman of tlio AVellington Education Board, and Mrs. Dyer.

The following were in charge of the various stalls:—lco cream, sweets, and drinks, Mrs. Caldwell, Misses Green, McNab, AVkithain; cakes, Mesdames Collett and Greenfield. Tho races and games wero under the charge of Messrs. H. Martin, F. Greenfield, C. Green, and A. Bryan; the coconut shies under Mr. H. Morgan and Jack Noble; tho "milk bottle" shies-, under Messrs. W. Davis and Bob. Fairbairn; dart game under Messrs. H. Greenfield and C. Simms; and the pin game under Mr. T. Caldwell. A physical culture display was given by tho pupils of Miss Z. Chennolls. A baby show was held, the judge being Nurse Linklater. Items wero given by the Petone Central Band. There was also an afternoon tea room.

Much interest attached to tho fancy dress procession, the judge being Miss L. AVright. The awards were as follows:—Fancy dress, Nita Gledhill ("Guardsman"), 1; Alan Pritchard ("Pirate"), 2. Original boy or girl: Clare Lane ("Jean Batten"), 1; Pat Anderson ("Charlie Chaplin"), 2. Advertisement, boy or girl: Carina Anderson ("Dutch Cleaner"), 1; Billy Elvines ("Orange Drink"), 2. Decorated pram: Molly TrWer, 1; Baby Duncan, 2. Specials: Jean and Roua Marsden ("0! Bisto") and Baby Love ("Grandma").

The cooking competition was judged by Mr. R. Clark, and the awards were: Adults, pikelets and girdle scones, Mrs. Campbell; sponge cake. Mrs. F. Robson; short-cakes, Mrs. C. JJalliday; ginger bread, Mrs. AY. Iladdy. Girls: Plate of oven scones, Mary Pritchard-; almond fingers, Juno Noble.

Raeos were held for the children this morning.
