GOOD OLD WAY
MUTUAL ENRICHMENT
SMUTS SEES HOPE IN
RETURN
WHAT TEADE MEANS
(British Official Wireless.) (Received October 20, 11 a.m.)
RUGBY, October 10,
Tho freedom of Duiiuoc wp.s conferred upon General Smuts, and, in the course of an address in reply, ho said that the best hope for the world was that, in tho years to como wo should return to tho good old way to enrich ourselves not at tho expense of others, buf by enriching others also. Barbed wire entanglements should be taken down, and the no man's land which was being built up round every country done away with. In the so-cnlled
economic isolation and economic nationalism he saw only the doom of trade, of good relationships in the world, and tho doom of much that was dear to all.
