THORNDON SCHOOL

EX-PUPILS' REUNION

A very happy evening'was spent at the Lyceum Club on Thursday, the occasion being the reunion of ex-pupils of the Thorndon School. The old pupils were received on arrival by the president and members of the executive of the recently formed ex-pupils' association. in opening the proceedings the chairman, Mr. M. S. Galloway, welcomed the old_ pupils and briefly indicated the work which had been done by the association since it had come into existence. Its primary object, he said, was to bring the- old pupils together in social intercourse in' addition to doing what it could by way of strengthening the hands of the present headmaster and staff on behalf of the scholars at present attending the old school. "Evenings such as this," he said, "afford the opportunity of renewing old friendships and recalling many happy memories."

Among those present were Messrs. Allen and Maxton, both over eighty years of age, who had journeyed from the Wairarapa to be present. During the evening there were various gamos and competitions, interspersed with musical items, the programme being contributed to by Misses Joan Maunder, L.A.8., and Eileen Roache, L.A.B. (pianoforte duets), Miss Marjorie Clifford (songs), Miss Eunice -Bernasconi, L.A.B. (violin solos), Miss AVilson (recitation). A very enjoyable community sing was also indulged in. Miss Bernaseoni and Mr. R. Hill acted as accompanists and Messrs. Williams and Hill played for the community sing. interesting reminiscences of the school were given by Messrs. Allen and Maxton, who circulated among those present some very old photographs. Supper was served, the arrangements being in the hands of Mesdaines Leu McKay, S.E. Luke, and Misses Donkin and Luke. Miss Noeline Paton acted as secretary.
