BALL AT NCAIO
A particularly successful dance which took place at Ngaio Town Hall this week marked tho closo of the series of woekly dance classes organised during the winter months by Mrs. E. E. Hicks and Mrs. B. V. Serimgeour, in aid of All Saints' Church, Ngaio. There was an exceptionally large attendance, and the function was a fitting conclusion to the successful activities of tho promoters). .
The hn.ll was gay with streamers, the colour scliemo of pink, blue, apple-green', and gold being most effective. The stage, too, was charmingly decorated with greenery and a profusion of lovely cherry blossom. A delicious home-made supjioi- was generously contributed and served by tho many frionds of .the members and their teachers. To music by an excellent orchestra the dance went on till a late hour, the programme being interspersed with novelty numbers. Mr. K. B. Hicks made a capable M.O. A most enjoyable half-hour was provided by Mr. Owen Pritchard, who led a community sing, being accompanied by Mrs. Haydn at the piano. The vicar, the Rev. Mr. Cowio, expressed the appreciation of all for the splendid work accomplished by Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. Scrimgeour. Mr. E. Watts also spoke on behalf of tho class members, thanking Mesdames Hicks and Serimgeour for the happy times afforded Ngaio residents, and presented each lady with a suitable gift as a token of appreciation. Handsomo bouquets wove presented to the two organisers by Miss Olivo Gardner-and Miss Evelyn McFarlane. Tho hostesses expressed thanks to tho many friends whose kindly help during the winter lias made their efforts o -pleasure ;ind a success.
