UNIVERSITY CLUB
The University Club has plenty of talent offering for its inter-club teams this yrar, and/has entered iv the first men's (2), sccoml men's, third men's (2), first women's, third women's, fourth, and fifth divisions. This is probably a .record number of entries from the club. The majority of last year's players are available to fill the. two first division men's teams. Sykes, who. has left the district, will bo missing from last year's A team, but K. McL. Ferkins, J. J. McCarthy, and Gosnell will be playing again; The vacant position is at present open, there being available from last year's . first division players Black.' P: McCarthy, Page, Webb, and Whitcombe. These lastnamed' w[H have, to compete for their places in the first division teams with- .some notable acquisitions; in-' eluding 1!. McCarthy from Newtown, Marehant from Wellington, and N. A. Morrison from Seatoun. The unlucky ones will' lead a very strong second division team, for which Donovan, Hutchison, and Plank will also be available. This will be the- first occasion since the division of the grades on which the club has fielded a first division women's team. This team will be drawn from Miss T. Gill, who did not participate in inter-club matches last year, and' Misses D. Briggs, Si Phillips, P. Edwards. M. Bell, E. Cooke, and a recent acquisition from Wanganui, Miss J.. Granger. It will consist of young players who have improved , rapidly during the last season or so, and who will improve still further with the opportunity of playing against first-class players. In the lower grades -the number of members wishing to ' play inter-club mati-he? indicates that competition' for the positions will be very keen/ * • . .
