STOCK SALES
FIRM CATTLE MARKET
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
FEILDING, .October 19.
The cattle market was very firm at the supplementary cattle fair, when well over 2000 head were offered. The demand for all classes was much keener than at the annual spring sale, and prices showed a distinct rise on those ruling then, particularly for station cows, and for fattening purposes. The sale opened briskly and went right through, every line of goodquality heifers and steers being keenly competed for. Some exceptionally good lines of station cows for fattening purposes drew the keenest bidding.. .Local buyers outbid the Taranaki- district, which generally absorbs the majority of station cows. The bulk of the young cattle went to the Main Trunk district.
The quality of-the yearling station cattle was hardly up to that of 'the offering at the annual spring sale. These came from outside districts, especially the East; Coast. The sale proved that Feilding is the absorbing district for station cattle, which are purchased locally for fattening purposes. There was a fair market for fat cattle, ox beef just going to the'schedule rates of 2os and cow beef, to 20s per 1001b. Fat sheep sold at recent rates., ,
