Fire destroyed' tho. . homestead • at Avondalo Station, ono of the landmarks of the Hangaroa district, owned and occupied by Mr. Henry Harris.

A telescope bought at a recent sale in London bore the date 1640. It is said to bo tho oldest dated optical instrument in the world.
