LOGIC OF INCOME TAX

Sir, —As one oi the- unfortunates compelled by infirmities of age to depend i'dr support for myself and my wife entirely on the income from investments, and driven already to tlio verge of despair by the exactions of the Income- Tax Commissioner, I read with interest your correspondent's letter under the above hending. It is evident, as he points out, that the wealthy exporter and farmer are escaping taxation to tlio extent of thousands of pounds today. Also it is probable, as ho- says, that "suporannuitants" are also allowed to do likewise. And what can such individuals as ho or I do in-the matter, savo protest? Let-him remember, too, the Scriptural injunction, "Whosoever hath to him shall be- given, and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken oven that which he seemeth to have." No doubt, too, those responsible have their instructions. —I am, etc.,
