The united efforts of the clubs, 'together with a glorious spring-day, made the afternoon- "an unqualified success. Mr..\Flinn (president',of the bowling section) briefly addressed croquet players and friends, .after .which Mrs. Storiehouse (president of the croquet club) drove the first ball and declared the green' open for play. The Institute Band, comprising twenty members, added to the enjoyment.of the'function. Afternoon tea was served in the bo.wling pavilion. Special mention was made during tho afternoon of the assistanco given to tho club by Mr. Whiting, who had- put in a good deal of tim& painting both the croquet pavilion and the newly-renovated shelter. Mrs. Stonehouse presented Mr. Whiting with a suitable memento. Situated amidst beautiful surroundings tho Khandallah Club' has an ideal setting and the.opening function each year is eagerly looked forward to by representatives from either clubs. This year's ceremony, which took place last Tuesday, was indeed one to be remembered by the large number of guests and members present. The membership.-of tho Karori Club, is by no means large, th& club possesses an enthusiastic body of workers who lose uo opportunity of making improvements wherever possible. The New Zealand Council is issuing a monthly gazette, -which can be obtained from the hon. secretary. (Mr. A.-G. IP. Ross). Mr. Koss- is editing the journal, and an important feature of this paper will be hints on tactics and notes on the laws by experienced .players. Personals. ' Tjc-wis and Mrs. Dinnie, jun. (both of Karori Club), who have been seriously ill, are now making good progress, and their many friends hope that they will soon be on the lawns again.
