RONGOTAI COLLEGE BOXING

The finals of. the' Rorigdtai College boxing tournament,-which, were decided last week, were.the culmination, of a training scheme which'lasted for nine months. In the first term every boy in the school received'lessons either from senior boys who had proved themselves in the boxing ling or from roosters. At the beginning of the necond term every boy. boxed at least one round in- the Iring/iind-.the best-hundred were picked out for "extra .training. From this, hundred (35 boys,..after receiving a couple of-months' training, entered for the tournament. Five teams were formed from" the tournament, entrants, and- these'eompeted for a sli feld given- to- the team obtaining the highest" aggregate of points in the tournament.

Points were given as follows:— Entry 1, winning a bout 1, Wih'nirig a final 2. Competition for this shield was very keen, and resulted as follows: —Romans, ■35; Trojans; '30; 'Spartans, 2S; Britons, 2S; Greeks, 22.

A good deal of the boxing was of a very high order, and there was not nearly as much of that heartiness without skill as is often seen in schoolboy boxing. Ogden; 1001b (A), J. Alcoek; 1001b (B), G. Thompson; 901b (A), R. Wall; 901b (B), J. Morgan; 801b (A), P. Smith; 801b (B), W. Turnbull; 701b (A), R. Sissons. Apart from the finalists, all of whom did well, there is very promising material inC. Trillo, I; Marshall; T. and R. Whelan, L. and J. R. Morgan, B. Jacobsen, C. Miller, I. Hamlin, D. Muir, J. Hurley, P. Chambers*;- and T. Moody. The Boxing Association's gold medal for the best display, win or lose, was awarded to C. Trillo.
